Lamont Tumblr announced

Lamonsters may sound like something that goes bump in the night, but they’re actually just library fans.

The moniker refers to followers of Lamont Library’s latest endeavor to virtually reach its patrons — its new Tumblr page. Following the example of successful forays onto the image-based social media platform by Houghton and Widener libraries, Lamont staff launched their own Tumblr as a means to share collection highlights, events, staff picks, and research tips.

“We hope the page will be of interest to anyone who enjoys everything the humanities has to offer,” said library assistant Caitlin Elwood, who initially joined forces with colleagues Lynn Ansaldo, Sue Gilroy and Lynn Sayers on the project to reach out to Harvard undergraduates, Lamont’s primary patron audience.

Recent posts have highlighted the latest reads to be made available at Lamont — everything from Harvard history professor and University Librarian Robert Darnton’s new study of state censorship to the comical stories and witty insights gathered in humorist Amy Poehler’s Yes, Please. Anniversary posts remind Lamonsters of the birthdays of literary luminaries such as Sylvia Plath and Dylan Thomas and highlight related items in the library’s collection, such as rare recordings and unabridged journals that take the reader beyond the writers’ best known works.
