A.R.T. announces ‘Family Friday’ for ‘No Child …’ premiere

The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) is offering a special discounted ticket price for its Nov. 23 premiere of “No Child … ” — the Obie Award-winning one-woman show by Nilaja Sun. Tickets for the “Family Friday” performance are $25 for each member of a family with a young adult under 21 years of age. (“No Child …” contains strong language and is suitable for children 15 and up.)

Created and performed by Sun, “No Child …” is based on her experiences as a teaching artist at some of New York City’s toughest schools. The performance chronicles her trials and triumphs teaching drama to a class of academically and emotionally challenged students in the Bronx. Sun takes on the roles of more than a dozen characters in the play, including herself, students, parents, teachers, and an all-knowing janitor. “No Child …” is directed by Hal Brooks and will run through Dec. 23 at the A.R.T.’s Loeb Stage.

The play received the 2007 Obie Award for Distinguished Performances, the 2007 Lucille Lortel Award for Best Solo Production, and the 2007 Outer Critics Circle Winner for Best New American Play and Outstanding Solo Performance, among other accolades.

After “Family Friday,” single ticket prices will range from $39 to $79 ($25 for students). Senior and group discounts are also available.
