Tennis invite welcomes some eclectic company

1 min read

Women tennis players from across the country descended upon the Murr Center courts this past weekend for the Harvard Invitational (Nov. 2-4). The final fall meet-up paired athletes from North Carolina State, Texas A&M, the University of Illinois — and, of course, Harvard — in head-to-head doubles and singles matches. Because team scores weren’t tallied, the invite gave players a chance to take on top-ranked talent outside their usual field of competition.

Highlighting Harvard’s efforts was freshman Agnes Sibilski, who captured her group with a 2-1 record in singles matches. After dropping an opening round match to Elze Potgieter of Texas A&M (ranked 85th in the country in a preseason poll), 7-5, 6-3, Sibilski bounced back with a pair of wins over Leigh Finnegan of Illinois (6-2; 6-3) and N.C. State’s Lenka Hojckova (6-3; 6-3). On day two (Nov. 3), Sibilski teamed up with captain Stephanie Schnitter ’08 to blank the Illinois tandem of Christine Stromberg and Alejandra Meza Cuadra, 8-0.
