Harvard men’s swimming head coach Tim Murphy recently announced that Mark Sowa — a veteran of collegiate and international coaching — has been named an assistant coach with the Crimson program. Sowa comes to Harvard after spending the past two years on the coaching staff of the Bahamian national team. He also served as the head senior competitive coach of the Barracuda Swim Club, which won two national championships in the Bahamas.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be returning to the Boston area and for the opportunity to coach at one of the best institutions of higher learning in the world,” said Sowa.

An assistant with the women’s program at Maryland in 2005, Sowa helped the Terps to their first Atlantic Coast Conference championship. He has also served as an assistant at the University of Richmond, helping the Spiders to three Atlantic 10 Conference titles. Sowa began his college coaching career in 1999 as an assistant at Brown, where he spent two years with the Bears.
