2000-01 Fellowships at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs

The Weatherhead Center for International Affairs has announced the following opportunities for fellowships during the 2000-01 academic year:

Graduate Student Associate Positions

The Graduate Student Associate Program provides a supportive and stimulating environment in which promising Harvard graduate students can interact with each other, with faculty, and with fellows of the Center as they complete their dissertations and begin the transition to a career.

Graduate Student Associates are offered shared office space at the Center with computer resources, opportunities to present and receive feedback on their work, and grants from $500 to $2,000.

Applicants should have completed their General Examinations and have a research focus related to the core interests of the Weatherhead Center. The application deadline is March 10, 2000. For more information or application details, please contact Clare Putnam, WCFIA Fellowships Office at 495-9899.

MacArthur Foundation Predoctoral Fellowships and Summer Grants on Transnational Security Issues

The Weatherhead Center will offer two pre-doctoral fellowships for 2000-2001 to Harvard Ph.D. (or similarly advanced degree) candidates whose research is related to transnational security or economic security issues.

MacArthur Fellows are expected to be in residence at Harvard and participate in the monthly meetings of the MacArthur seminar.

The Predissertation fellowship carries with it a stipend of $18,200 and includes funds to cover university facilities fee and health insurance. Fellows are offered shared office space with a computer.

Summer fellowships of $1000 to $3,000 for short-term research or travel are also available. The application deadline is March 1, 2000.

Weatherhead Center Dissertation Completion Grant

The Weatherhead Center offers one full-year dissertation completion grant for academic year 2000-2001 to a Harvard doctoral candidate who is completing a dissertation related to the core research interests of the Center and who is likely to complete his or her degree by the end of the year.

The fellowship carries with it a stipend up to $17,000 plus facilities fees and individual health insurance. Office space and access to computer facilities at the Weatherhead Center will be provided to the recipient of this fellowship. The application deadline is February 18, 2000.

Weatherhead Center Pre-dissertation Grants

The Weatherhead Center will offer several pre-dissertation grants, generally in the $3,000-range, to graduate students who have passed preliminary exams and who are undertaking a project related to the core research interests of the Center. The application deadline is March 20, 2000.
