Somewhere between seared tilapia and popcorn chicken, Harvard University Dining Services (HUDS) Council of Chefs is cooking up a revolution. Assembled just over a year ago, the council – a critical mass of culinary talent, according to Alexandra McNitt, director for marketing and communications at HUDS – is in charge of creating and executing menus for Harvards 13 undergraduate dining halls, 10 campus restaurants, and Crimson Catering. Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health, in the first study to investigate the potential benefit in humans of the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) in reducing the risk of Parkinsons disease, have found that regular users of these drugs had a lower risk for Parkinsons disease than nonusers. For years data on the relationship between dietary fat and breast cancer have left scientists and the public puzzled, but the latest study from Brigham and Womens Hospital (BWH) provides more compelling evidence for young women to replace their intake of animal fats with vegetable fats. In contrast to earlier work in this area, the researchers looked specifically at the diets of women during their premenopausal years. The study, published in the July 16 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, found that diets high in animal fats – not vegetable fats – may influence a womans risk of breast cancer.
