College’s Financial Aid Initiative continues to bolster interest

Despite the cancellation of Visitas, an 82 percent yield marks the highest since the Class of 1973 entered. Much credit has been given to Harvard undergrads and the Admissions Office for leading a virtual outreach to the potential freshmen through Twitter, YouTube, websites, and blogs.

At nearly 77 percent, the yield on admitted students exceeds last year’s 75.5 percent, and may rise further. Selected from upwards of 35,000 applicants, the class is almost complete.

Harvard staff pitched in to help load the mail truck with letters of admission. The letters were mailed out today (March 30) to 2,158 students, 6.2 percent of the record pool of 34,950 applicants. More than 60 percent of the admitted students will receive need-based scholarships averaging more than $40,000, benefiting from a record $160 million in financial aid.
