New faculty directors named in Graduate Commons Programs

2 min read

Campus Services and Harvard University Housing recently announced the appointment of Professor Christopher Winship and his wife, Nancy K. Winship, as the newest faculty directors within the Graduate Commons Program. They will take up residence in 29 Garden Street next spring, and will begin hosting events for graduate students and other Harvard affiliates in the Program’s newly expanded Garden Area, including properties such as 29 Garden, Botanic Garden, Shaler Lane, Holden Green and the Cronkhite Graduate Center, later this fall.

Meredith Weenick, vice president for Campus Services, shared in the excitement. “Faculty directors extend the learning environment beyond the classroom and breathe cultural life into our graduate housing. We are thrilled that the Winships will be taking on this critical role for our graduate students,” she said.

The faculty director role is instrumental in creating connections between residents and bringing scholars into the Graduate Commons Program. Monthly events include dinners, wine or coffee nights, outings with residents to local theatres and museums; and the popular Meet the Scholar lecture series.

Professor Winship is currently the Diker-Tishman Professor of Sociology in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and also a member of the Harvard Kennedy School’s senior faculty. Nancy K. Winship currently serves as the senior vice president of institutional advancement at Brandeis University.

The Winships join Professors Davíd Carrasco and María Luisa Parra, Professor Jennifer Lerner and Brian Gill, and Professor James Hogle and Doreen Hogle as members of the faculty director team.
