Harvard/MIT Team awarded Institute of Museum and Library Services grant

Two affiliated projects proposed by a Harvard/MIT team and a Metropolitan New York Library Council/Brooklyn Historical Society team each received a 2013 Laura Bush 21st-Century Librarian Program Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

The awards will support the projects “Testing the National Digital Stewardship Residency Model in Boston, MA” and “National Digital Stewardship Residency in New York.” These projects will test the pilot program developed by the Library of Congress in Washington, DC to help 10 students gain the skills, experience and network to begin successful careers in digital stewardship; to increase the number of skilled digital stewardship professionals; and to aid replication of the model residency program across the country.

Winning projects were identified as those that would significantly increase the number of students enrolled in LIS programs, conduct research to support the successful recruitment and education of the next generation of librarians and enhance curricula within graduate schools of library and information science, as well as programs of continuing education for librarians and library staff.
