Dawson, Crimson tame Bears, 38-21

All-America running back Clifton Dawson ’06 rushed for three first-half scores to help propel the Crimson past reigning Ivy champion Brown, 38-21, this past Saturday (Sept. 23) in front of nearly 8,500 in Providence, R.I. Dawson tallied 184 yards on the afternoon to move into fourth place on the league’s all-time rushing chart. In his first career start, QB Jeff Witt ’09 completed 13 of 20 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown. The sophomore left the game at the end of the third stanza with his team up, 31-7. The Crimson (2-0; 1-0 Ivy) will look to extend their winning streak against host Lehigh (1-2) on Sept. 30.

Soccer’s Mann takes rookie of the week honors

The Ivy League has named Crimson goaltender Lauren Mann ’10 its rookie of the week following the freshman’s five-save performance against host Pennsylvania this past Sunday (Sept. 24). Mann recorded four saves in the second half to help Harvard preserve a 2-1 advantage. The victory marked the first for the Crimson this season, which improve to 1-6-1 at press time (1-0-0 Ivy).

Volleyball gets by Maine in four

The Harvard women’s volleyball team captured its second straight match with a hard-fought 3-1 win over Maine (35-33, 30-23, 25-30, 30-21) this past Saturday (Sept. 23) at Malkin Athletic Center. The victory pulls the Crimson within a game of .500 (4-5 at press time). Junior middle blocker co-captain Suzie Trimble recorded 15 kills and hit .542 to pace the Crimson. For her play over the weekend, Trimble earned player of the week accolades from the Ivy League.
