Sluggers pour it on at Cornell

Harvard baseball tallied 26 runs in a doubleheader against host Cornell this past Sunday (April 2) to capture its fourth- and fifth-straight victories. The Crimson managed a 14-3 win in game one before wrapping up the sweep with a 12-6 effort in the second contest. In the latter game, sophomore Steffan Wilson blasted a three-run homer in the top of the seventh to leave the Big Red behind, 10-6.

With the wins, Harvard improves to 8-9-1 overall and stays perfect in Ivy play at 4-0. The team was visiting with Holy Cross (9-11-1) as the Gazette went to press.

Ogunwole pins All-American honor at NCAAs

Junior heavyweight wrestler Bode Ogunwole wrapped up the 2006 NCAA championships March 16-19 in Oklahoma City with a sixth-place finish. In his opening and second-round bouts, Ogunwole fell to No. 4 seed Cain Velasquez of Arizona State University, 5-1, and to Kirk Nail of Ohio State, 4-3, respectively, before turning in four straight victories in the consolation round to clinch All-American status. The junior tri-captain closes out the season with a 32-8 record.
