Women’s heavies stun Brown, capture EAWRC title
The Radcliffe heavyweight crew (10-1, 4-1 Ivy) upset five-time defending champion Brown this past Sunday (May 18) on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J., to capture its first Eastern Association of Women’s Racing Colleges (EAWRC) Sprints since 1989. Ranked fourth nationally, the Black and White entered the Sprints seeded second behind the same Brown boat that had handed Radcliffe its lone defeat of the season on April 27.
Radcliffe was timed in at 6:43.8, while Princeton, the race’s early leader, was next in at 6:48.2. Brown, the event’s top-seed and the nation’s second-ranked crew, had to settle for third with a time of 6:51.2. With the win, the Black and White will travel to Indianapolis on May 30 for the NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships.
Cardinal eclipse Crimson
The Harvard women’s tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Stanford at the NCAA Tournament’s round of 16 at the University of Florida, Gainesville, on May 15. With the loss, the Crimson closes out its season 19-4, while the defending national champion Cardinal – winning its 21st straight match – improves to 23-1.
