ACUTA singles out Harvard team

The Association for Communications Technology Professionals in Higher Education (ACUTA) has awarded Harvard University its most prestigious award, the Institutional Excellence in Telecommunications Award. The University was selected in the large-school category this year. The award will be presented to Harvard’s UIS Network Operations Team for its support of regional high-performance networking.

The Network Operations Team was recognized for the operational support it has provided for the Northern Crossroads, an affiliation of academic partners with a common interest in facilitating advanced telecommunications networking in New England. Harvard serves as the network operations center.

Jeri Semer, president of ACUTA, will present the award to the Network Operations Team on March 18.

The award recognizes that this regional collaboration, with Harvard leading the effort, is a national model, providing the infrastructure for applications that are required in research today. Outreach efforts to K-12 schools, hospitals, and affiliated research centers are now expanding the impact of the availability of advanced networking to the entire New England region.
