Dennis Thompson’s timely book on elections published

Professor of Government and the Alfred North Whitehead Professor of Political Philosophy Dennis F. Thompson’s new book “Just Elections: Creating a Fair Electoral Process in the United States” (University of Chicago Press, 2002) has been released just in time for the November contests. In addition to his FAS posts, Thompson is a professor at the Kennedy School and the founding director of the University Center for Ethics and the Professions. Thompson’s current teaching and research concentrate on democratic theory and political ethics.

UMass, Amherst honors Robert S. Peterkin

Robert S. Peterkin, Francis Keppel Senior Lecturer on Educational Policy and Administration, has been awarded the Chancellor’s Medal from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. The highest honor bestowed by the university, the medal recognizes professional and intellectual achievement, personal accomplishments, and contributions to society. Peterkin, who has held school superintendencies in Cambridge and Milwaukee, is the director of the Graduate School of Education’s Urban Superintendents Program, which prepares individuals for top leadership positions in city school systems.
