‘Fitz’ sparks win

1 min read

With a brilliant outing from backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick ’05, the Harvard football team overcame a 12-point deficit to edge Brown, 26-24, this past Saturday (Sept. 28) at Brown Stadium. The win improved the Crimson to 2-0 on the season, while keeping the overall streak alive and well at 11 straight.

Taking control midway through the second quarter for an injured Neil Rose ’02-’03, Fitzpatrick completed 10 of 16 passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns. He also managed 131 yards rushing – the game high – on 18 carries. His efforts earned him the Gold Helmet Award as New England’s I-AA Player of the Week.

Harvard faces Lehigh University this Saturday (Sept. 5) at Goodman Stadium in a contest that pits the defending Ivy League champions against the reigning Patriot League champs. The Crimson, who enjoy a slight 5-4 lead in the series rivalry, will look to spoil the Mountain Hawks’ 26-game home win streak. Whether Rose will be ready to return to action on Saturday is uncertain.
