Jeanne Friedmann Westheimer, former assistant dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS), died at Mount Auburn Hospital on Oct. 20. She was 86.

Westheimer, for 64 years the beloved wife of Frank H. Westheimer, Morris Loeb Professor of Chemistry Emeritus, worked as an administrator in Harvard’s Office of International Students prior to her appointment as assistant dean of GSAS in 1967. She occupied that post for 13 years.

In her retirement, the longtime Cambridge resident continued her education, taking at least 40 Harvard courses over the past 20 years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts.
