Gipson to receive Friedenwald

The 12,000-member Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) has selected Harvard Medical School Professor of Ophthalmology Ilene K. Gipson as the recipient of the Friedenwald Award. The award is presented annually for outstanding research in the basic or clinical sciences as applied to ophthalmology. Gipson was selected to receive the Friedenwald Award in recognition of her seminal contributions to basic and clinical understanding of wound healing, epithelial anchorage, and mucin biology in the area of ocular surface and corneal function. She will receive the award in May during ARVO’s annual meeting in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
