Cheryl Hoffman has joined the Faculty of Arts and Sciences as the new associate dean for finance.

Hoffman managed the finances of major health care organizations for almost two decades. From 1984 to 1995, she served as controller and director of fiscal services and then vice president of finance and chief financial officer at Albany Memorial Health Systems in Albany, N.Y.

In 1995, she moved to Boston, where she served as senior vice president and chief financial officer at New England Deaconess Hospital. During the merger between Deaconess and Beth Israel Hospital in 1996, Hoffman oversaw the consolidation of the two hospitals’ finances. She became senior vice president and chief financial officer of the new Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Hoffman received her B.S and M.S. in accounting from the State University of New York in Albany.

“Being part of the Harvard University community is an exciting prospect for me,” Hoffman said. “I’m interested in working with the staff at FAS and getting to know the faculty as well.”

“I’m so very pleased that she will be joining the Faculty of Arts and Sciences,” said Nancy Maull, Administrative Dean for FAS. “She is a proven and accomplished financial administrator, and she understands the purposes of money and its stewardship in an educational and research institution.”
