Crimson head women’s basketball coach Kathy Delaney-Smith — the winningest coach in Ivy League history — was recently awarded the Selma Black New England Hero Award, given annually to an individual or enterprise in the New England sports community that has shown outstanding commitment to promoting the positive aspects of sport through sportsmanship, community service, and/or courageous achievement.

The award was presented to Delaney-Smith by Sport in Society at the True Heroes of Sport Awards Gala on Jan. 21. As a survivor of breast cancer, Delaney-Smith has been a vocal spokesperson, volunteer, and counselor for several organizations over the past decade, including the American Cancer Society.
