Memorial celebration for Omeljan Pritsak announced

A memorial service of the life and career of Professor Omeljan Pritsak will be held Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. in Appleton Chapel, Memorial Church. Pritsak passed away May 29 from heart failure.

One of the leading scholars of the 20th century in the fields of Turkology and Ukrainian history, Pritsak was appointed professor of linguistics and Turkology at Harvard in 1964 and soon became instrumental in the creation of a center for Ukrainian studies as well. Pritsak was the first Mykhailo Hrushevsky Professor of Ukrainian History, and co-founder and longtime director of the Ukrainian Research Institute.

A reception will immediately follow the service.

Herbert Bloch memorial service set for Oct. 21

A memorial service for Herbert Bloch, 95, Pope Professor of the Latin Language and Literature Emeritus, will be held Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. at the First Church in Belmont, Mass., 404 Concord Ave. (corner of Concord and Common). Bloch died Sept. 6 in Cambridge, Mass.

Alan Symonds memorial service is upcoming

A memorial service for Alan Symonds, technical director for Harvard College Theatre Programs under the Office for the Arts at Harvard, will be held Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. in Agassiz Theatre. Symonds died of heart failure on June 20 in Cambridge, Mass.
