Crimson lacrosse tourney bound

Within 24 hours of the men’s lacrosse team’s heartbreaking, triple-overtime loss to Dartmouth on Saturday (May 6), the Crimson were named one of 10 teams to receive at-large bids to the upcoming NCAA Division 1 championships. The invite ends a decade long drought for the Harvard program in post-season play.

Harvard (6-6; 3-3 Ivy) will take on eight-time national champion Syracuse on May 14 at 7 p.m. in the Orangemen’s Carrier Dome. The game will be carried live on ESPNU.

Women’s team tennis gets set for Purdue, men’s tandem makes the cut

The Ivy champion Harvard women’s tennis team (18-6; 7-0 league) will take on Purdue (13-10) this Friday (May 12) in the first round of the NCAA tournament in Evanston, Ill. Northwestern, meanwhile, will face the University of Illinois, Chicago, in the other first-round matchup. The opening-round winners will square off Saturday (May 13) for the chance to advance to the finals bracket May 18-22 at Stanford University. This year marks the Crimson’s 13th appearance in the tourney.

In men’s action, the doubles tandem of Sasha Ermakov ’09 and Ashwin Kumar ’08 have earned their first career bid to the NCAA doubles championship. Ranked No. 55 in the latest poll, Ermakov and Kumar earned the league’s bid after posting a 5-4 record in dual matches. Following the completion of the NCAA team championships, the country’s top 32 doubles teams will vie for the national title May 24-29, also at Stanford.
