Corriero nominated for ESPY

Harvard’s Nicole Corriero ’05, the ECAC Hockey League and Ivy League Player of the Year, was recently nominated for an ESPY Award by ESPN in the category of Best Female College Athlete. Corriero joined Louisiana State University basketball star Simone Augustus; University of California, Los Angeles, gymnast Kristen Maloney; Notre Dame soccer player Katie Thorlakson; and Cat Osterman, a softball player at the University of Texas at Austin, in the list of nominees. Osterman received the most votes to win the award on July 17.

Heavyweights cruise to third-straight undefeated season

The Harvard men’s heavyweight crew solidified its third- straight perfect season with a 40-second margin of victory over Yale at the two schools’ 140th regatta this past June in New London, Conn. Seniors Malcolm Howard and Aaron Holzapfel completed their Crimson careers with their third straight win in the 4-miler – in addition to four Eastern Sprints gold medals and a trio of Intercollegiate Rowing Championships. With this most recent win, Harvard extends its winning streak to 24 consecutive dual races and 32 opponents to close out the season.

Opening the June 11 regatta, the Crimson freshmen doubled their margin of victory from last season with a 7.5-second victory. Meanwhile, Harvard’s junior varsity saw its eight-year reign in the division come to an end as Yale captured its first win in the series since 1996, crossing the finish at 14:12.7 – 20 seconds ahead of Harvard.
