Stuart Shieber, James O. Welch Jr., and Virginia B. Welch Professor of Computer Science and director of the Office for Scholarly Communication (OSC), has announced the first open office hours for HUL’s new Library Lab. The University-wide Library Lab is designed to leverage the entrepreneurial aspirations of Harvard students, faculty, and staff, who can propose projects in all areas of library activity.

The hours are set for Wednesday, Oct. 13, and Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the OSC office in Wadsworth House 210. Library Lab staff will be available to any Harvard student, faculty member, or staff member who is considering a project proposal or who has applied already for Library Lab support.

According to Shieber, “This is a chance to spend a few minutes discussing your ideas with us. You can use our office hours as a forum to refine an idea, to see how it may fit into the overall Library Lab program, or to get assistance with proposal planning.”

Attendees should review the program description and guidelines, but it is not necessary to submit an inquiry or proposal in advance.

“We don’t know whether to expect five people or 50,” Shieber says, “but if the range of ideas we’ve seen so far is any indication, we’re off to a great start. I really look forward to talking with more people about their ideas.”
