Get Teddy Ready: Harvard helps the Salvation Army brighten the holidays

2 min read

For the past four years, Harvard’s Student Financial Services Office has partnered with the Salvation Army of Cambridge for its “Get Teddy Ready” event, an annual effort to decorate teddy bears for the annual Teddy Bear Parade.

The Salvation Army asks local organizations to creatively dress up teddy bears in either handmade clothes, baby clothes or doll clothes. The more creative the better.

When finished, bears will go the Sunrise Assisted Living facility in Arlington, where residents will be able to temporarily enjoy them until they’re permanently distributed to local children in need during the holiday season.

What started with Harvard decorating 15 bears, has grown to more than 120 fully dressed and decorated bears that are ready to brighten someone’s holiday.

This year bears were dressed as Tom Brady, the Easter Bunny, Peter Rabbeart [sic], Run BearMC, and even the Notorious “Ruth Bear-der Ginsburg.”

Before Harvard’s bears were picked up by the Salvation Army, members of the University community were given the opportunity to vote on the finished products. What’s a stake? Bragging rights for an entire year.

While there were many categories, the overall Best in Show winners can be found below.
