Jericho Brown, a Bunting Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study and assistant professor of English at the University of San Diego, has been named one of 10 recipients of the 2009 Whiting Writers’ Award, presented by the Mrs. Giles Whiting Foundation. Brown will be presented the award on Oct. 28 at a ceremony in New York City.

The award, which was first given in 1985, carries a $50,000 prize and recognizes 10 young writers a year for their extraordinary talent and promise. It is one of the most coveted prizes for up-and-coming writers.
