The YIVO Institute for Jewish research honored Charles W. Eliot University Professor Lawrence H. Summers on May 13 at its 83rd annual benefit dinner. The ceremony was held at the Center for Jewish History in New York City.

A past president of Harvard University from 2001 to 2006 and the former secretary of the U.S. Treasury Department, Summers was honored for his “unique mastery of scholarship and public policy,” according to the institute.

YIVO is a global resource center for Eastern European Jewish Studies; Yiddish language, literature and folklore; and the American Jewish immigrant experience. Its library contains more than 385,000 volumes, while its archives hold more than 23 million pieces, including 200,000 photographs.
