Queen appoints Gomes to oldest order of chivalry
In August, the Rev. Professor Peter J. Gomes, the Plummer Professor of Christian Morals and Pusey Minister in the Memorial Church, was appointed by Queen Elizabeth II to membership in The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, the oldest order of chivalry in the United Kingdom, dating to the 10th century. Gomes will be invested in November.
Wilson to accept Defenders of Wildlife Legacy Award
The Defenders of Wildlife will honor Edward O. Wilson, Pellegrino University Research Professor Emeritus and honorary curator in entomology, with its Legacy Award this evening (Sept. 27) at the organization’s 60th anniversary gala event in Washington, D.C. The Defenders of Wildlife, which serves to protect species and their habitats, selected Wilson for his career-spanning efforts as a scientist, as a public educator, and as a leader in his advocacy for the Endangered Species Act and other critical conservation laws.
Wilson has served as a Defenders of Wildlife science adviser for more than a decade
