Police reports

Following are some of the incidents reported to the Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) for the weeks beginning July 18 and ending August 25. The official log is located at 1033 Massachusetts Ave., sixth floor.

July 19: Officers were dispatched to the Holyoke Center to take a report of a stolen computer, Palm Pilot, camera, cash, keys, and a credit card from multiple offices. A radio was reported stolen from a vehicle at Peabody Terrace garage. An officer was dispatched to 1552 Tremont St. to take a report of an individual in violation of a restraining order. The Boston Police Department (BPD) was notified. A pocketbook was reported stolen at Currier House. A digital camera was reported stolen at the Warren Alpert Building. A motorcycle helmet and gloves were reported stolen at William James Hall. Binoculars and other personal items were reported stolen from 22 Fernald Drive. Mail was reported stolen at Weld Hall.

July 20: An officer was dispatched to the Peabody Terrace garage to take a report of a stolen car stereo. A bicycle seat was reported stolen at Dunster House. A box containing personal documents and identification was reported stolen at Peabody Terrace. A bicycle tire was reported stolen at the Science Center. An officer was dispatched to Weld Hall to take a report of indecent assault. The suspect was identified and no criminal complaint will be filed. Officers were dispatched to 36 Oxford St. on a report of an attempted theft of bicycles. HUPD stopped three suspects on Kirkland Street, and the Cambridge Police Department (CPD) arrived and took the suspects into custody.

July 21: An officer was dispatched to Holyoke Center to take a report of the fraudulent use of a University account.

July 22: An officer was dispatched to Larsen Hall on a report of an individual offering people rides. The individual became belligerent and was placed under arrest for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. A cell phone was reported stolen at Langdell Library. Officers were dispatched to Holyoke Center on a report of an individual who was repeatedly calling and threatening people. An officer took a report and criminal complaints are to be sought. On July 23, an arrest warrant was issued for the above individual, who was later taken into custody for threatening to commit a crime.

July 23: A camera and voice recorder were reported stolen at 44 Brattle Square.

July 24: Blank checks and credit card information were reported stolen at Vanderbilt Hall.

July 26: Officers assisted CPD in the area of the Corporal Burns Playground in the search of a suspect wanted in connection with possession of a knife. The suspect was stopped and taken into custody by CPD.

July 27: An officer took a report of multiple harassing phone calls received at Cabot Library.

June 29: A digital camera and jewelry were reported stolen at Kirkland House.

June 30: An officer was dispatched to 60 Museum St. to take a report of an individual who threatened to hit another individual. Officers were dispatched to the Biology Lab to take a report of a stolen drill. The caller stated that there was evidence that showed who may have stolen the drill. After officers arrived and conducted an investigation, an arrest was made. Officers were dispatched to Kirkland House on a report of an individual being followed. Officers arrived, spoke with the suspect, and then placed the individual under arrest for trespassing.

June 31: A broken window was reported at Cabot Library. Money was reported stolen at Adams House. A passport was reported stolen at Thayer Hall. A pocketbook was reported stolen at Mount Auburn and Dunster Streets.

Aug. 1: An officer was dispatched to 1 Western Ave. to take a report of damage done to the inside of an apartment.

Aug. 2: Graffiti was reported at 1552 Tremont St. Vandalism to a vehicle was reported in the Hingham Street lot. At HUPD headquarters, an officer took a report of a harassing e-mail. In the area of Dunster Street and Massachusetts Avenue, an officer observed an individual known to have an arrest warrant acting suspiciously. Officers conducted a field interview, ran the individual for warrants with positive results, and then arrested the individual on a warrant service.

Aug. 3: Contractor tools were reported stolen at Peabody Terrace garage. A digital camera was reported stolen at Sever Hall.

Aug. 4: Tools were reported stolen from a vehicle at Dunster House.

Aug. 5: A pocketbook was reported stolen at 260 Longwood Ave. Money was reported stolen at the Science Center.

Aug. 6: A battery to a laptop was reported stolen at Canaday Hall. An officer took a report of a restraining order violation at the Office of Continuing Education. An arrest warrant was issued for the individual from the Cambridge District Court. Officers responded to Woburn where the individual was taken into custody. Two reports of stolen money were filed at the Harvard Institute of Medicine.

Aug. 7: Cash was reported stolen at Adams House. On Longwood Avenue, an officer assisted the BPD with information regarding individuals who were possibly linked to a carjacking.

Aug. 9: Cash was reported stolen at Straus Hall. Officers were dispatched to Sever Hall on a report of an individual exposing himself in the bathroom. Officers arrived and placed the individual under arrest for open and gross lewdness and trespassing.

Aug. 10: A pocketbook was reported stolen from Annenberg Hall. A bicycle tire was reported stolen at Vanderbilt Hall lot.

Aug. 12: Officers were dispatched to Adams House on the report of a fire alarm. An officer reported a bulletin board was on fire and was extinguished prior to the Cambridge Fire Department’s (CFD) arrival. CFD will investigate the incident. A digital camera was reported stolen at Loker Commons.

Aug. 13: A cell phone was reported stolen at the Science Center.

Aug. 14: A tomato plant was reported stolen at 109 Holden St.

Aug. 15: Sprinklers were reported vandalized in the Science Center Mall. A window was reported vandalized at Leverett House Towers.

Aug. 16: A fanny pack with contents valued at $90 was reported stolen at Mellon Hall.

Aug. 17: An officer responded to the Arnold Arboretum to take a report of a threat received. The suspect was identified and complaints will be sought.

Aug. 18: A table was reported stolen at 641 Huntington Ave. Officers responded to Conant Lab on the report of a chemical spill. Notifications were made and the situation was rendered harmless.

Aug. 19: A purse was reported stolen from an unlocked filing cabinet drawer at Longfellow Hall. The purse was later found in a trash barrel with the wallet missing. Vandalism to the computer room at Adams House was reported.

Aug. 20: A wheelchair was reported stolen at the Department of Economics. Officers assisted the CPD with a car accident at Harvard and Dana streets.

Aug. 22: Officers were dispatched to the Seeley Mudd Building on a report of a small chemical spill. One individual was transported to the hospital for a minor chemical burn.

Aug. 23: A cosmetic bag containing a wallet was reported stolen from an unsecured location at University Health Services. A bag with contents valued at $396 was reported stolen from Lavietes Pavilion. Officers assisted CPD with a car accident at 33 Dunster St. An officer assisted the Massachusetts State Police (MSP) on a report of a state police officer in trouble at 1 Seattle St. Multiple police units responded to the report. MSP took an individual into custody.

Since July 18, 33 bicycles, five laptops, and nine wallets have been reported stolen. There have also been eight reports of suspicious or harassing behavior.
