Department of Biostatistics at School of Public Health announces establishment of new award

The Department of Biostatistics at the School of Public Health has announced the establishment of the Distinguished Alum Award. This annual award is being created by a committee composed of a diverse group of alumni.

The award will recognize an individual in government, industry, or academia, who, by virtue of his or her research, methodology, organizational responsibility, and teaching, has impacted the theory and practice of statistical science. The overall career of the individual will be considered with an emphasis on how the nominee has used his or her experience to bring out the best in life with research and academics.

The award recipient will be invited to deliver a lecture on his or her career and life beyond the department. The recipient will also be presented with a plaque.

Nominations for the first award, to be given in May 2004, should be sent to the Distinguished Alum Award Committee, Department of Biostatistics, School of Public Health, 655 Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02115. Nominations should include a letter describing the contributions of the candidate, specifically highlighting the criteria for the award, and a curriculum vita. Supporting letters and materials are welcome but not required.
