Commencement Week events

Most are ticketed events, restricting public access. Several of the events will be broadcast on WHRB (95.3 FM). Those events include Phi Beta Kappa Literary Exercises at 11 a.m. June 4; Baccalaureate service at 2 p.m. June 4; Class Day at 2 p.m. June 5; Commencement Exercises at 9:15 a.m. and 1:50 p.m. June 6.

Monday, June 3

8:45 p.m. Class of ’52 concert. Sanders Theatre. An elegant concert of classical music, performed mainly or exclusively by members of the Harvard Class of ’52.

Tuesday, June 4

11 a.m. Phi Beta Kappa Exercise at Sanders Theatre. Speaker: Simon Schama, University Professor of History and of Art History at Columbia University. Poet: Charles Wright, the Souder Family Professor of English at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

2 p.m.

Baccalaureate Service at the Memorial Church. President Lawrence H. Summers to address the graduating seniors. Only graduates are allowed inside the Memorial Church, with parents sitting outside in Tercentenary Theatre.

Wednesday, June 5

11 a.m. ROTC Commissioning Ceremony at Tercentenary Theatre. President Lawrence H. Summers to address the newly commissioned lieutenants.

2 p.m.

Class Day Exercises in Tercentenary Theatre. Speaker: Al Franken ’73, political satirist and comedian.

Thursday, June 6

8:45-9:05 a.m. Massachusetts Hall. Honorary Degree recipients may be photographed from a roped-off photo press area in front of Massachusetts Hall.

9:05-9:40 a.m.

Harvard Yard. Procession.

10-11:40 a.m.

(approximately) Tercentenary Theatre. Commencement ceremony (outdoors regardless of weather): Oratio de Veritate, Leah Jane Whittington; Senior English Address, Zayed Muhammed Yasin; Graduate English Address, Avery Weld Gardiner; conferring of degrees and honorary degrees.

12:30 p.m.

University Marshal’s lunch at the tent between Lamont Library and Loeb House.

1:45-2:30 p.m.

Tercentenary Theatre. Alumni/ae parade, led by oldest marchers, begins at the John Harvard statue and into Tercentenary Theatre.

2:30-4:20 p.m.

(approximately) Tercentenary Theatre. Annual meeting of the Harvard Alumni Association; addresses by Harvard President Lawrence H. Summers and Daniel Patrick Moynihan, former U.S. senator.

4:30-5 p.m.

(approximately) Science Center, Hall D. Press conference with Daniel Patrick Moynihan.

Friday, June 7

12:30 p.m. Radcliffe Association Annual Luncheon and Radcliffe Medal presentation at Radcliffe Yard.
