Faculty Council Notice for May 9

At its 14th meeting of the year, the Council discussed plans for a new University-wide sponsored grants management system with Elizabeth Huidekoper (vice president for finance) and Elizabeth Mora (director of sponsored research). Professor Paul Martin, Dean for Research and Information Technology (DEAS and physics), Cheryl Hoffman, Associate Dean for Finance in FAS, and Alan Long, senior project consultant in the Office of the Executive Dean, were present for this discussion.

In addition, the Council discussed a proposal from the Committee on Research Policy to establish the status of “co-principal investigator.” Representing the Committee for this discussion were Professor Paul Martin, chair, Professor James Alt (Government), and Dean Gallant, secretary of the Committee and the FAS Senior Grants Manager.

The Council also heard a report on the occupation of Massachusetts Hall from the Dean of the Faculty, and, on the current status of the Freshman Seminar proposal, from the Dean of Undergraduate Education, Professor Susan Pedersen (History).

The last full Faculty Meeting of the academic year will be on May 15. The next Faculty Council meeting is on May 16.
