Students furnish feedback on furniture
During a recent open house at the Student Organization Center at Hilles, students toured furniture displays from four different companies. The feedback gathered from the students will help administrators both narrow down specifications for ordering furniture for Old Quincy and work toward a standard to draw on.
Participants in a Harvard panel drew from their own experiences in a look at life for mixed-race families in the U.S.: “American Masala: Race Mixing, the Spice of Life or Watering Down Cultures?”
Lamont extends hours in December
Lamont Library will remain open 24/7 during reading period and final exams this academic year, Harvard College Dean Evelynn M. Hammonds and interim librarian of Harvard College Susan Fliss announced today.
The newly renovated first floor of the Student Organization Center at Hilles (SOCH) was unveiled Wednesday night. The space was completely changed and updated over the summer as part of the College’s efforts to enhance undergraduate social spaces.
The Student Organization Center at Hilles should feel more like home when Harvard undergraduates return to campus in the fall — that is, if home has a performance-quality audio system, a high-definition flat-screen TV, top-of-the-line gaming, Starbucks-level coffee drinks, and space in which to party or to meet with several hundred friends.

A new art show at the Student Organization Center at Hilles (SOCH) Penthouse Gallery not only explores concepts of house and home, but homelessness as well.
Harvard undergraduates from many faiths will gather at the Student Organization Center at Hilles on Nov. 20 to package meals for hungry Boston-area children. The interfaith community service event is part of the Values in Action program launched this fall by Harvard’s Humanist Chaplaincy.
When undergraduates want to get together for an activity — from a small study session to a large conference for international students — they can usually find a place at the Student Organization Center at Hilles. The facility offers student organizations more than 50,000 square feet of the most versatile and functional space on campus, free of charge.
Friedrich named assistant dean for undergrad social planning
David R. Friedrich, the manager of the Student Organizations Center at Hilles (SOCH), has been appointed assistant dean of Harvard College and director of the Student Activities Office. He will be responsible for working with undergraduate students on developing and implementing extracurricular and social planning. His appointment is effective immediately.
