Young adults in America are plagued with debt, low-paying jobs, poor physical health, and psychological burdens, according to a new report from the Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council. Titled “Investing in the Health and Well-Being of Young Adults,” the report recommends viewing 18- to 26-year-olds as a distinct group when it comes to policy and research in order to provide the most effective support for this struggling population.

Harvard School of Public Health’s Kasisomayajula “Vish” Viswanath was a co-author of the report.

The report offers guidance in developing and enhancing policies and programs to improve young adults’ health, safety, and well-being, and suggests research priorities to inform this effort.
