All-USA College Academic winners defy expectations

Harvard social studies major and ROTC member Christopher Higgins, 22, stumbled onto his passion in 2007 while interning at New Hope, an orphanage in Uganda. He had figured he would teach English for a couple of months while on break from school, then head back home. But within a few weeks, he was helping the staff develop fundraising and management strategies. He has since raised more than $120,000 for the orphanage and helped the staff develop several projects that are now making a small profit.
