The Harvard University David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies has named distinguished journalist and Hispanic publisher Edward Schumacher-Matos the Robert F. Kennedy Visiting Professor for Latin American Studies.

Born in Colombia, Schumacher-Matos was the founding editor and associate publisher of The Wall Street Journal Americas, a bureau chief for The New York Times in Buenos Aires and Madrid, and a member of a Pulitzer Prize-winning team at the Philadelphia Inquirer. Four years ago he founded the award-winning chain of Rumbo Spanish-language newspapers in Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and the Rio Grande Valley, serving the Latino community in Texas.

While at Harvard this semester, Schumacher-Matos is teaching a graduate seminar on Hispanics and illegal immigration. He is also currently writing a book on the subject.
