Memorial services set for Ketelhohn, Carroll

Gene Ketelhohn, Cabot House building manager, 60

Gene G. Ketelhohn, the building manager of Cabot House since 1983, died May 26 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was 60.

Ketelhohn was actively involved in the Cabot House community, serving as a set designer and character actor for a number of the House musicals.

He was also an accomplished artist. He painted the official portrait of past Cabot House masters, the Wackers. In 1991, he created sculptures made of garbage to encourage students to get involved in Cabot’s recycling program.

Born on Oct. 18, 1946, Ketelhohn was raised in Manhattan and received a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1968. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was an active member of Vietnam Vets Against the War.

Ketelhohn is survived by his wife, Linda Abrams, sister Erika Askin, brother-in-law Dean Askin, and nieces Lindsey and Kristin Askin.

A memorial service will be held on July 7 at 2 p.m. at Cabot House, Harvard University, 100 Walker St., Cambridge, Mass. Gifts may be made in his name to the Wellness Community-Greater Boston at 1039 Chestnut St., Newton, MA 02464.

Longtime employee, teaching assistant Carroll dies at 65

Charles “Chuck” Carroll, longtime Harvard Division of Continuing Education (DCE) employee and a Harvard graduate, died on May 21, after succumbing to a rare blood disease. He was 65.

Friends and colleagues have established a scholarship fund in Carroll’s memory for deserving Harvard Extension School A.A./A.L.B. candidates. Memorial donations may be made to the Chuck Carroll Memorial Scholarship Fund, attn: Ruth Faris, Harvard Extension School, 51 Brattle St., Cambridge, MA 02138. Checks should be made out to Harvard Extension School and have “Carroll Scholarship Fund” added in the lower-left memo area.

An informal memorial service has been planned for June 14 at 5 p.m., Grossman Common Room, 51 Brattle St., Cambridge.
