Harvard University photographers are active on campus and around the world, providing insight into Harvard faculty and staff, news, and events. A large library of stock images is available for use by members of the Harvard University community and media.

Ordering Photos from Harvard Public Affairs & Communications

Stock Images for Harvard University employees and affiliates

Images for internal use by Harvard employees and affiliates are $35.00 each, and have unlimited print and digital use. Images for commercial publications are subject to usage fees and reproduction rights. Images may be ordered by sending an email to photo_services@harvard.edu. Harvard employees will receive an email with a link to an online photography database to search and preview images. You may place the order through the database and use your 33-digit billing code for payment. Normal delivery is within five business days. Requests received after hours will begin processing the next business day.

Gazette Photos

If you are ordering an image from the Harvard Gazette, please supply as much information as possible to ensure efficient search and timely delivery. Include date published, the subject featured in the image, and the photographer’s name. Or you may download a form-fill PDF (Adobe Acrobat X is required) and return to photo_services@harvard.edu.

Press and Media Outlets

Members of the press and other media outlets are asked to download and fill out an order form and return it to photo_services@harvard.edu. Please include the news agency you represent, what images you are seeking, why the image is being requested, where it will be used, and the deadline. Once your order is processed, you will receive an email from Harvard@merlinone.net with a link to download images. Recipients have 24 hours to download. Normal delivery is within five business days. Requests received after hours will begin processing the next business day.

Requests for the Harvard shield or insignia should be sent to The Harvard Trademark Program at trademark_program@harvard.edu.

Image requests will be delivered via email. Most images are 300 dpi JPEGs at roughly 12×18 inches. To publish an image of an individual, Photo Services must first write the person pictured to gain consent. Delivery times will vary based on the approval process.
