Lehigh upend Crimson - and streak

Eleventh-ranked Lehigh University exploded for three unanswered third-quarter touchdowns en route to a 49-24 win over No. 15 Harvard this past Saturday (Oct. 1) at the stadium. The loss - the Crimson's first since a November 2003 setback against Penn - brings Harvard's 13-game winning streak, which stood as the longest in Division I-AA entering Saturday, to a halt.
Down a pair of touchdowns in the early going of the second quarter, Harvard (2-1; 1-0 Ivy) reversed its slow start with a 22-yard TD run and 36-yard field goal courtesy of junior play-caller Liam O'Hagan and Matt Schindel '08, respectively, to cut the deficit to 14-10.
Following the break, Harvard took its only lead of the game at the 10:49 mark of the third quarter on O'Hagan's 13-yard TD performance, putting the Crimson on top, 17-14. The Mountain Hawks responded three minutes later with a 1-yard scamper by running back Eric Rath before unleashing three more unanswered scoring drives over the final two quarters to eclipse the Crimson, 42-17.
The Crimson committed six turnovers on the afternoon (five by air and a fumble), while the Mountain Hawks defense limited Division 1-AA rushing leader Clifton Dawson '07 to just 59 yards on 10 carries.
Harvard, which is 2-1 overall (1-0 Ivy), will look to regroup against host Cornell (1-2 overall; 0-1 Ivy) this Saturday (Oct. 8) at 1 p.m. Check http://www.gocrimson.com for scores and highlights.
