The search will be led by a joint committee of the governing boards comprising three members of the Corporation and three members of the Board of Overseers. The Corporation members are James R. Houghton, A.B. '58, M.B.A. '62, chairman of Corning Inc.; Nannerl O. Keohane, LL.D. '93, president emerita of Duke University, and the Laurance S. Rockefeller Distinguished Visiting Professor of Public Affairs at Princeton University; and Robert D. Reischauer, A.B. '63, president of the Urban Institute. The Overseer members are Patti B. Saris, A.B. '73, J.D. '76, U.S. District Judge for the District of Massachusetts and president of the Board of Overseers for 2005-06; M. Lee Pelton, Ph.D. '84, president of Willamette University, and vice chair of the Overseers executive committee; and Roger W. Ferguson Jr., A.B. '73, J.D. '79, Ph.D. '81, vice chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve.

According to Harvard's charter, new members of the Corporation are elected by the President and Fellows of Harvard College (as the Corporation is formally known) with the counsel and consent of the Board of Overseers.
