Gabrielle Foreman
'Unveiling' Harriet Wilson
P. Gabrielle Foreman of Occidental College spoke about her groundbreaking research during 'Unveiling the Life and Legacy of Harriet Wilson' at the Barker Center on March 18. Wilson was the author of 'Our Nig,' the 1859 novel of a freeborn biracial girl who becomes an indentured servant. The book did not find success in its day, and it was long thought that Wilson died soon after publishing it, until Foreman and colleague Reginald H. Pitts discovered otherwise.
