Sports in brief

First-year foiler captures NCAA title

Freshman foiler Emily Cross defeated Alicja Kryczalo of Notre Dame, 15-7, to capture the NCAA women's foil title last week. The win helped bring Harvard to a sixth place finish (out of 33 schools) at the collegiate championships held March 17-20 in Houston. Teammate Timothy Hagaman '06, meanwhile, ended up placing third in the men's saber to boost the Crimson's final point total to 134. The Fighting Irish placed first in team standings with 173 points.

Sailing takes first at Truxtun Umsted Regatta

Sophomore Clay Johnson placed second in the C division standings to pace the Harvard coed sailing team to a first-place finish at the Truxtun Umsted Regatta off Annapolis, Md., this past Sunday (March 20). Out of a field of 20 schools, Harvard finished with a regatta-best 283 points to better second-place Navy by 10 points.
