Sports in brief

Women's hoops edge Dartmouth, 70-67, for slice of Ivy title

Junior Maureen McCaffery and senior Reka Cserny sparked a 29-6 second-half run to propel the Harvard women's basketball team past visiting Dartmouth on Tuesday evening (March 8), 70-67.

The win hands Harvard (20-7 overall) a share of the Ivy title with the Big Green (16-10) - the Crimson's ninth in its 30-year history and third in four years.

Sporting identical 12-2 Ivy League records, the two title holders will square off on Saturday (March 12) at Brown's Pizzitola Sports Center to determine which team goes on to the NCAA tournament. Tip-off is at 4 p.m. Check http://www.gocrimson.com for updates.

Preston scores All-Ivy accolades, set to join Ogunwole at NCAAs

After posting a 20-2 record this season, including a perfect 4-0 mark in Ivy League action, Harvard wrestler Robbie Preston '07 was recently selected first-team All-Ivy by the league's coaches. Most recently, the sophomore grappler downed Cornell's Mike Mormile in the 125-pound weight class, 7-5, to capture the Crimson's 16th EIWA individual title earlier this month at the U.S. Naval Academy. With his victory, Preston earns an automatic bid to the NCAA championships, to be held March 17-19 in St. Louis. Harvard heavyweight Bode Ogunwole '07, who received an at-large bid at 285 pounds, will join Preston in St. Louis.
