Sports in brief

Grumet-Morris records fifth shutout

Hobey Baker candidate Dov Grumet-Morris '05 recorded his fifth shutout of the season this past Tuesday (Feb. 22) to help Harvard hockey to a 3-0 win over visiting Brown. In blanking the Bears, Grumet-Morris ties Harvard's single-season record for shutouts and collects the 10th of his career.

The Crimson, meanwhile, move up to second place behind Cornell in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Hockey League (ECACHL), improving to 15-4-1 in league contests and 18-7-2 overall. Harvard is now a win or tie away from clinching the Ivy title, with only a Feb. 25 showdown with Dartmouth remaining on its Ivy slate. The Crimson can capture the title outright with a victory over the Big Green. Visit http://www.gocrimson.com for updates.

Yale denies women's squash coveted Howe Cup

The Yale women's squash team continued to confound the Crimson squad with a 7-2 victory in the Howe Cup finals on Feb. 20 in Princeton, N.J., ending Harvard's season at 9-2 (5-1 Ivy). The newly crowned national champion Bulldogs, who finished the season undefeated at 14-0 (5-0 Ivy), previously handed Harvard its only other loss of the season - a 5-4 heartbreaker on Feb. 12.

The Harvard women defeated Brown, 9-0, and Trinity, 6-3, prior to their showdown with Yale. The Crimson, meanwhile, finish the 2004-05 campaign with a second-place spot in the Ivy standings.
