Director's Internship Program names host organizations

Under the leadership of Institute of Politics (IOP) Director Phil Sharp, the Director's Internship Program annually arranges summer internships for Harvard undergraduates interested in pursuing careers in politics or public service. The institute provides stipends for living expenses.

IOP secures the internship positions and then selects interns through a competitive application review and interview process. Those selected for the program are expected to intern for 10 to 12 weeks, usually from the second week in June through mid-August. This year, interns in Boston, Sacramento, Calif., and Washington, D.C., will receive a $3,000 stipend, while interns in New York City will receive a $3,500 stipend. Interns are responsible for finding their own housing.

The host organizations for the 2005 Director's Internship Program include the offices of Gov. Mitt Romney and Mayor Thomas M. Menino (Boston); ABC News, the Heritage Foundation, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the Hill Newspaper (Washington, D.C.); the office of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (Sacramento, Calif.); MTV Office of Strategic Partnerships and the White House Project (New York City); Lord Mayor of London's Office (England); and the Ministry of Health (Mexico), among others.

IOP is holding an information session for the program for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors at noon on Friday (Feb. 4) at the Office of Career Services, 54 Dunster St. For more information, or to apply online, visit http://www.iop.harvard.edu. The application deadline is Feb. 11.
