The council also met with John Coatsworth, Monroe Gutman Professor of Latin American Affairs (FAS), chair of the Standing Committee on Out-of-Residence Study, and with Jane Edwards, director of the Office of International Programs, to discuss changes in the description and title of that committee.

In addition, the council received a report from Emmanuel Akyeampong, professor of history and of African and African American Studies (FAS), chair of the Committee on African Studies, and with Evelyn Brooks-Higginbotham, Victor S. Thomas Professor of History and of African and African American Studies (FAS), on a new African Studies track within the African and African American Studies concentration.

Further, the council heard a presentation from Benedict Gross, George Vasmer Leverett Professor of Mathematics (FAS) and dean of Harvard College, and Matthew Mahan '05, president of the Undergraduate Council, on the proposed increase in the Undergraduate Council fee.

Finally, the council considered the recent faculty discussion of the Curricular Review, and the appointment of a parliamentarian for the academic year 2004-05.
