Two music department faculty honored

G. Gordon Watts Professor of Music Kay Kaufman Shelemay was elected fellow of the American Academy for Jewish Research. The academy represents the oldest organization of Judaic scholars in North America. Nominated and elected by their peers, academy fellows constitute the most distinguished and most senior scholars teaching Judaic studies at American universities.

In addition, Walter Bigelow Rosen Professor of Music Bernard Rands was recently elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Rands, who was also selected by his peers, was one of two composers elected this year.

Weintraub appointed new chief of surgery

David Ginsburg Associate Professor of Surgery Ronald M. Weintraub has been chosen as the new chief of surgery for Cambridge Health Alliance - the award-winning health-care system that serves the residents of Cambridge, Somerville, Everett, and Metro-North communities. Weintraub is board certified in both general surgery and thoracic surgery.
