Jantzen pins third EIWA title, on to NCAA's
Senior wrestler Jesse Jantzen became the first Harvard wrestler in history to win three-straight EIWA titles by defeating Brown's David Dies, 5-2, in the 149-pound title bout at the 100th EIWA Championships on March 7 at Penn. Harvard finished the tournament seventh overall, third among Ivy League participants, while Lehigh captured its third-consecutive title.
Ranked first in the nation in the 149-pound class, Jantzen will be one of four Crimson grapplers to take part in the 2004 NCAA Championships, to be held March 18-20 in St. Louis. The first wrestler in program history to earn a NCAA tournament berth in each of his four seasons, Jantzen brings a 29-1 overall record into the NCAA's, where he finished in third place in his last two appearances.
Ruggiero takes top Ivy honors
Angela Ruggiero '04 has been named Player of the Year to headline a list of four Harvard women's hockey players to earn Ivy League honors. A unanimous first-team pick for the second season in a row, Ruggiero anchored a Harvard defense that allowed a national best 1.17 goals per game.
Teammates Nicole Corriero '05 and Julie Chu '06 were named to the first and second All-Ivy team, respectively, while Ali Boe '06 earned honorable mention honors.
HUCA gears up for Beanpot
The Harvard University Cycling Association (HUCA) will host its second annual road race on April 4 at the Tufts Veterinary School in scenic Grafton as part of the 2004 Beanpot Cycling Classic. Harvard will compete against teams from Tufts, Northeastern, BU, B.C., M.I.T., and Wentworth beginning at 9 a.m. The weekend kicks off April 3 at Concord-Carlisle High School with daylong time trials, a criterium (a multi-lap race around a track), and a dinner and movie, sponsored by the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference. All are invited.
