HMS researcher wins Crafoord Prize

Latham Family Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School (HMS) Timothy Springer, a senior investigator at the Center for Blood Research (CBR) Institute for Biomedical Research Inc., has been named a recipient of the 2004 Crafoord Prize by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Sharing the prize is Eugene Butcher of Stanford University.

Regarded as one of the most prestigious international awards for basic research in the biosciences, this year's Crafoord Prize recognizes Springer and Butcher for their path-breaking research to understand how the white blood cells of the human system migrate within our bodies to fight disease and maintain health. The awardees will share the $500,000 cash award. Springer will receive his award from the King of Sweden, Karl Gustav XVI, in a ceremony in Stockholm on Sept. 22.

HBS Press and Gartner Inc. form publishing partnership

Harvard Business School Press (HBS Press) and Gartner Inc. recently announced that they will publish a co-branded series of timely professional handbooks for senior executives, tentatively titled "The Gartner Growth Agenda: Leading and Managing Strategic Growth with Technology."

HBS Press editorial director Hollis Heimbouch and senior editor Jacqueline Murphy negotiated the partnership agreement. Murphy will oversee the editorial development of the series and its individual titles in conjunction with Gartner Press publisher Heather Levy and editor Timothy Ogden.
