D.C. United selects soccer's Ara
All-Ivy Crimson midfielder Kevin Ara '04 was selected by the D.C. United in the third round of the 2004 Major League Soccer draft on Jan. 16 at the Charlotte Convention Center. Ara, who joined 14-year-old phenom Freddy Adu - the first overall pick - to be selected by the United, became the highest Ivy player drafted among the five selected in this year's draft. An All-Ivy selection in 2002 and 2003, Ara paced the league in shots this past season with 55.
Ivy League applauds Peljto, Tubridy
For the third time this season - and the 10th time in her career - the Ivy League has named women's basketball senior forward Hana Peljto its Player of the Week. Over the Crimson's past two games, Peljto has averaged 35 points and 12.5 boards. Most recently, she scored a school record-tying 39 points in a 73-52 win against Lafayette on Jan. 15. With 1,808 career points, Peljto is 192 points short of becoming just the third player in Ivy women's history to score 2,000 points.
Classmate Tricia Tubridy was placed on the league's weekly honor roll after averaging nearly 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals in Harvard's past two outings. Tubridy is currently leading the Crimson with 51 assists, and is fifth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio.
