Faculty Council notice April 16

At its 14th meeting of the year the Faculty Council continued its review of a draft of the Report of the Committee to Address Sexual Assault of Harvard. Professor Jennifer Leaning (Medical School and School of Public Health), and other members of the committee, as well as Robert Iuliano, acting general counsel and David Fithian, assistant dean of Harvard College and secretary to the Administrative Board, were present for this conversation.

The council also met with Professors Emmanuel Akyeampong (history and African studies) and Henry Louis Gates Jr. (Afro-American Studies) to discuss a proposed change in the name of the Department of Afro-American Studies to reflect a proposed new undergraduate concentration track in African Studies.

In addition, the council discussed a proposed new Ph.D. program in Biostatistics in Public Health Sciences. Dean Peter Ellison (anthropology and GSAS) made the presentation, joined by Professors Stephen Lagakos (HSPH), Nan Laird (HSPH), Jun Liu (statistics), Donald Rubin (statistics), and Dean James Ware (HSPH).

The Faculty Council next meets on April 30, and the Faculty on May 6. The preliminary agenda deadline for the May 6 meeting is 9:30 a.m. on April 21.
